Section on Night Prayer - Instruction to make the last unit of night prayer the witr, even if not fearing dawn
Hadith 2624
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ الْقَاسِمِ حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " صَلاةُ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى ، فَإِذَا أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَنْصَرِفَ فَارْكَعْ وَاحِدَةً تُوتِرُ لَكَ مَا قَدْ صَلَّيْتَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The night prayer should be performed two by two, and when you intend to finish the prayer, then perform one rak'ah; the prayer you have performed will thus become odd."
