Section on Night Prayer - Clarification that witr should be performed as the last unit before dawn, not after
Hadith 2623
أَخْبَرَنَا شَبَابُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، بِوَاسِطَ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : نَادَى رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَنَا بَيْنَهُمَا ، كَيْفَ صَلاةُ اللَّيْلِ ؟ فَقَالَ : " مَثْنَى مَثْنَى ، فَإِذَا خَشِيتَ الصُّبْحَ فَصَلِّ وَاحِدَةً وَسَجْدَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man addressed the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in a loud voice while I was between them. He asked: How should the prayer at night be performed? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) replied: It should be performed two by two, and when you fear that dawn is near, then perform one rak'ah and two prostrations before the break of dawn.
