Section on Night Prayer - Mention of another narration confirming what we stated
Hadith 2598
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ الْمَكِّيِّ ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلاةِ مِنْ جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ يَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ ، أَنْتَ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ ، أَنْتَ قَيَّامُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ ، أَنْتَ الْحَقُّ ، وَوَعْدُكَ الْحَقُّ ، وَلِقَاؤُكَ حَقٌّ ، وَالْجَنَّةُ حَقٌّ ، وَالنَّارُ حَقٌّ ، وَالسَّاعَةُ حَقٌّ ، اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ ، وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ ، وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْتُ ، وَبِكَ خَاصَمْتُ ، وَإِلَيْكَ حَاكَمْتُ ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ ، وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ ، أَنْتَ إِلَهِي لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand to pray at midnight, he would recite this: "O Allah! All praise is due to You; You are the Light of the heavens and the earth. All praise is due to You; You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth. All praise is due to You; You are the Lord of all that is in the heavens and the earth. You are the Truth, Your promise is true, meeting You is true, Paradise is true, Hell is true, the Hour is true. O Allah! I have submitted to You, I have believed in You, I have relied upon You, I have turned to You, with Your help I argue, and I appoint You as judge. Forgive me for what I have done before and what I will do later, what I have done secretly and what I have done openly. You are my God; there is no god but You."
