Section on Night Prayer - Mention of how the Prophet (peace be upon him) praised and supplicated to his Lord during night prayer
Hadith 2597
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ الأَحْوَلُ ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ تَهَجَّدَ ، قَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ ، أَنْتَ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ قَيَّامُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ مَلِكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ الْحَقُّ ، وَلِقَاؤُكَ حَقٌّ ، وَوَعْدُكَ حَقٌّ ، وَالْجَنَّةُ حَقٌّ ، وَالنَّارُ حَقٌّ ، وَالسَّاعَةُ حَقٌّ ، وَالنَّبِيُّونَ حَقٌّ ، وَمُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَقٌّ ، اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ آمَنْتُ ، وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ ، وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ ، وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْتُ ، وَبِكَ خَاصَمْتُ ، وَإِلَيْكَ حَاكَمْتُ ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ ، وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ ، أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ ، وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ ، لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ ، وَلا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ " ، قَالَ سُفْيَانُ : وَزَادَ فِيهِ عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ : " لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ ، وَلا حَوْلَ وَلا قُوَّةَ إِلا بِاللَّهِ " ، قَالَ سُفْيَانُ : فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهِ عَبْدَ الْكَرِيمِ أَبَا أُمَيَّةَ ، فَقَالَ : قُلْ : " أَنْتَ إِلَهِي لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ ، وَلا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand for the night prayer (Tahajjud), he would recite this: "O Allah! All praise is exclusively for You, You are the Light of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. All praise is exclusively for You, You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. All praise is exclusively for You, You are the King of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. All praise is exclusively for You, You are the Truth, meeting You is the truth, Your promise is the truth, Paradise is the truth, Hell is the truth, the Hour is the truth, the Prophets are the truth, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the truth. O Allah! I have believed in You, and I have submitted to You, and I have relied upon You, and I have turned to You, and with Your help I argue, and I appoint You as a judge. Forgive me for what I have done before and what I will do later, what I have done secretly and what I have done openly. You are the One who brings forward and the One who delays. There is no deity except You."
The narrator named Sufyan states: In this narration, the narrator named Abdul Karim has transmitted these additional words: "There is no deity except You. Nothing can happen without the help of Allah Almighty."
The narrator named Sufyan says: I mentioned these words before Abdul Karim Abu Umayyah, so he said: You should recite this: "You are my deity, there is no deity except You."
