Section on night prayer – mentioning the reason for this instruction
Hadith 2586
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ ، أَنَّ الْحَوْلاءَ بِنْتَ تُوَيْتِ بْنِ حَبِيبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى ، مَرَّتْ بِهَا ، وَعِنْدَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتْ : فَقُلْتُ : هَذِهِ الْحَوْلاءُ بِنْتُ تُوَيْتٍ ، زَعَمُوا أَنَّهَا لا تَنَامُ بِاللَّيْلِ ، قَالَتْ : فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا تَنَامُ اللَّيْلَ ! خُذُوا مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ ، فَوَاللَّهِ لا يَسْأَمُ اللَّهُ حَتَّى تَسْأَمُوا " .
Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Once, Hawla bint Tuwait passed by her. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was also present with her. Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I said, "This is Hawla bint Tuwait. People say that she does not sleep at night." Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "She does not sleep at night? You people should do as much (good) deeds as you have the strength for. By Allah! Allah’s bounty does not cease until you yourselves become weary."
