Section on night prayer – clarification that the Prophet’s instruction to wake his family referred to his wife
Hadith 2569
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الأَقْمَرِ ، عَنِ الأَغَرِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، وأبي هريرة ، عن النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ الرَّجُلُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ، وَأَيْقَظَ امْرَأَتَهُ ، فَصَلَّيَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، كُتِبَا مِنَ الذَّاكِرِينَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَالذَّاكِرَاتِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "When a person wakes up at night and also wakes up his wife, and both of them stand and perform two rak'ahs, then both of their (names) are recorded among the men and women who remember Allah abundantly."
