Section on night prayer – mentioning the recommendation to wake one’s family for night prayer, even by sprinkling water
Hadith 2567
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو قُدَامَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلانَ ، عَنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " رَحِمَ اللَّهُ رَجُلا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ يُصَلِّي ، وَأَيْقَظَ امْرَأَتَهُ ، فَإِنْ أَبَتْ نَضَحَ فِي وَجْهِهَا الْمَاءَ ، وَرَحِمَ اللَّهُ امْرَأَةً قَامَتْ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ، وَأَيْقَظَتْ زَوْجَهَا ، فَإِنْ أَبَى نَضَحَتْ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْمَاءَ " .
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “May Allah have mercy on the man who gets up at night to pray and awakens his wife as well; if she refuses, he sprinkles water on her face. And may Allah have mercy on the woman who gets up at night to offer voluntary prayers and awakens her husband; if he does not get up, she sprinkles water on his face.”
