Section on night prayer – clarification that night prayer is better than voluntary prayers after obligatory ones
Hadith 2563
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ خَلِيلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَسْرُوقِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُنْتَشِرِ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الْحِمْيَرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَيُّ الصَّلاةِ أَفْضَلُ بَعْدَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ ؟ قَالَ : " الصَّلاةُ فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ " ، قَالَ : فَأَيُّ الصِّيَامِ أَفْضَلُ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ؟ قَالَ : " شَهْرُ اللَّهِ الَّذِي يَدَعُونَهُ الْمُحَرَّمَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: After the obligatory prayers, which prayer is the most virtuous? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The prayer performed in the middle of the night. He was asked: After the month of Ramadan, which fast is the most virtuous? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The fast of Allah’s month which people call Muharram.
