Section on night prayer – mentioning the recommendation to increase night prayer and not rely on sleep
Hadith 2562
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْجَرْمِيُّ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ نَامَ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ ، فَقَالَ : " بَالَ الشَّيْطَانُ فِي أُذُنِهِ أَوْ فِي أُذُنَيْهِ " ، قَالَ سُفْيَانُ : هَذَا عِنْدَنَا يُشْبِهُ أَنْ يَكُونَ نَامَ عَنِ الْفَرِيضَةِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: It was asked from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about a person who sleeps until he reaches the morning. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Satan has urinated in his ear." (The narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) "in both his ears?" The narrator named Sufyan says: In our view, what is meant by this is the person who remains asleep at the time of the obligatory prayer.
