Hadith 2541
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came and saw that people were performing prayer in a corner of the mosque during the month of Ramadan. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) inquired: Who are these people? It was submitted: These are some people who do not know the Qur'an. Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) is leading them in prayer and they are following his prayer. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: They have done well (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) what they have done is excellent.

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: One night, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed prayer in the mosque. Some people performed prayer following his example. The next night, when he performed prayer, the number of people increased. On the third or fourth night, many people gathered, but the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did not come to them. In the morning, he said: I saw what you did (that is, that you came to perform prayer), but I did not come to you because I feared that it would be made obligatory upon you. (The narrator says) This happened in the month of Ramadan.
