Hadith 2530
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي السَّائِبُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ أَبِي وَدَاعَةَ ، أَنَّ حَفْصَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ : " لَمْ أَرَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي فِي سُبْحَتِهِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ حَتَّى كَانَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ بِعَامٍ وَاحِدٍ ، فَرَأَيْتُهُ يُصَلِّي فِي سُبْحَتِهِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ ، وَيُرَتِّلُ السُّورَةَ حَتَّى تَكُونَ أَطْوَلَ مِنْ أَطْوَلَ مِنْهَا " .
The noble wife of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), narrates: I never saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performing voluntary prayers (nawafil) while sitting, until one year before his passing, I saw him performing voluntary prayers while sitting. He would recite the Surah slowly and with pauses, to the extent that it seemed even longer than the Surah itself.
