Hadith 2518
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ مَوْلَى حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ ، فَبَعَثَنِي مَبْعَثًا ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ وَهُوَ يَسِيرُ ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَأَوْمَأَ بِيَدِهِ ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمْتُ فَأَشَارَ وَلَمْ يُكَلِّمْنِي ، فَنَادَانِي بَعْدُ وَقَالَ : " إِنِّي كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي نَافِلَةً " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were traveling with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He sent me on an errand. When I returned to him, he was riding (on his mount) and moving. I greeted him with salam, and he gestured to me with his blessed hand. Then I greeted him again, and he gestured again. He did not speak to me. After that, he called me and said: At that time, I was performing a voluntary prayer.
