Section on voluntary prayers – clarification that ‘Aisha’s statement “if he prayed sitting, he bowed sitting” means if he started the prayer sitting, he would bow sitting
Hadith 2511
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَلْمُ بْنُ جُنَادَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التُّسْتَرِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ الْعُقَيْلِيِّ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي قَائِمًا وَقَاعِدًا ، فَإِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلاةَ قَائِمًا رَكَعَ قَائِمًا ، وَإِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلاةَ قَاعِدًا رَكَعَ قَاعِدًا " .
Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to perform prayer both standing and sitting. When he started the prayer standing, he would go into bowing (ruku) from the standing position, and when he performed the prayer sitting, he would go into bowing while sitting.
