Section on voluntary prayers – mentioning permission to perform voluntary prayers while sitting
Hadith 2507
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " مَا مَاتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى كَانَ أَكْثَرُ صَلاتِهِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ " . " وَكَانَ أَحَبَّ الْعَمَلِ إِلَيْهِ مَا دَاوَمَ عَلَيْهِ الْعَبْدُ وَإِنْ كَانَ يَسِيرًا " .
Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Near the end of his life, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to perform most of his prayers while sitting. The most beloved deed to him was that which a servant does regularly, even if it is little.
