Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man entered the mosque on the day of Jumu'ah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was present on the pulpit at that time. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called him and instructed him to perform two rak'ahs. Then that person entered on the next Jumu'ah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was again present on the pulpit. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called him and instructed him to perform two rak'ahs. Then he came to the mosque on the third Jumu'ah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was again present on the pulpit, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called him and instructed him to perform two rak'ahs.

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates: Sayyiduna Sulaik Ghatafani (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the mosque on the day of Jumu'ah while the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was delivering the sermon to the people. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: Perform two rak'ahs and do not do such an act again. The narrator says: He performed two rak'ahs and sat down. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "Do not do such an act again," refers to delaying in coming to Jumu'ah. It does not mean that he was being prohibited from performing those two rak'ahs which he was commanded to perform. The evidence for this being correct is the narration transmitted by Ibn ‘Ajlan, which we have already mentioned before, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on another Jumu'ah commanded him in the same way to perform two rak'ahs.

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man entered the mosque on the day of Jumu'ah while the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was on the pulpit. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called him and ordered him to perform two rak'ahs. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Give charity." So they gave charity, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave two garments from the charity collected from the people to that man. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Give charity." So that man presented one of the two garments. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not like this action of his, so he said: "Look at this man, he came to the mosque in a bad state. I had hoped that you would assess his condition and give him charity, but you did not do so. So I said: 'Give charity,' then the people gave him two garments in charity. Then I said: 'Give charity,' and he presented one of those two garments." (Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to that man:) "Take your garment." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) expressed displeasure at this. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "Take your garment," is literally a command to take the garment, but what is meant is to prohibit the opposite situation, and that is to give one's garment (in the way of Allah). In this narration, there is evidence that when a person takes out something to give in charity, and it has not yet reached the hand of the person to whom it was to be given as charity, then the person has the right to take it back. In this, there is also evidence that it is not recommended for a person to give all his wealth in charity; however, if he has surplus wealth besides his own needs and food, then (he may spend it).
