Section on voluntary prayers – clarification that one entering the mosque should pray two rak’ahs and keep them brief
Hadith 2502
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ السَّعْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ خَشْرَمٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ سُلَيْكٌ الْغَطَفَانِيُّ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ فَجَلَسَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ " يَا سُلَيْكُ ، قُمْ فَارْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَتَجَوَّزْ فِيهِمَا " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ، وَالإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ ، فَلْيَرْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَلْيَتَجَوَّزْ فِيهِمَا " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Sulaik Ghatafani (may Allah be pleased with him) came on the day of Jumu’ah while the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was delivering the sermon. He sat down, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: “O Sulaik, stand up and perform two rak‘ahs, and make them brief.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “If any one of you comes on the day of Jumu’ah while the Imam is delivering the sermon, he should perform two rak‘ahs before sitting down, and he should make them brief.”
