Hadith 2491
Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had a chamber made of matting constructed during the month of Ramadan. He used to offer voluntary prayers in it at night. Some people from among his companions followed his prayer and offered prayers as well. When he became aware of the people (gathering), he began to sit (i.e., he would not go to them for prayer). The narrator says: Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) went to them. He said: I realized (what was happening) when I saw your behavior. O people! Offer your prayers in your homes, for the best prayer a person offers is that which he offers in his home, except for the obligatory prayer, for which the ruling is different.
