Section on voluntary prayers – mentioning the recommendation to shorten the two rak’ahs before Fajr if one intends them
Hadith 2465
أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ ، وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ خَفَّفْهُمَا حَتَّى يَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِي أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَقْرَأْ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ " .
Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would perform the two rak'ahs of Sunnah before Fajr, he would recite them briefly to the extent that I would think perhaps he did not even recite Surah Al-Fatihah.
