Section on Witr prayer – mentioning the prohibition of performing Witr twice in one night, at the beginning and end
Hadith 2449
أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الأَنْمَاطِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُلازِمُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَدْرٍ ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ طَلْقٍ ، قَالَ : زَارَنِي أَبِي يَوْمًا فِي رَمَضَانَ ، فَأَمْسَى عِنْدَنَا وَأَفْطَرَ ، فَقَامَ بِنَا تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ وَأَوْتَرَ ، ثُمَّ انْحَدَرَ إِلَى مَسْجِدِهِ فَصَلَّى بِأَصْحَابِهِ ، ثُمَّ قَدَّمَ رَجُلا ، فَقَالَ : أَوْتِرْ بِأَصْحَابِكَ ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " لا وِتْرَانِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ " .
Tais bin Talq narrates: One day my father came to visit me during the month of Ramadan. He stayed with us until the evening. He broke his fast with us, then that night he led us in prayer and also performed Witr. Then he went to the mosque and led his companions in prayer there as well. Then he appointed another person to lead, and said: You lead your companions in Witr, because I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) say: Witr is not performed twice in one night.
