Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): When do you perform Witr? He replied: I perform Witr and then go to sleep (i.e., I perform it before sleeping). The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You have adopted the cautious way. Then he asked Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): When do you perform Witr? He replied: I go to sleep, then wake up and perform Witr. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You have adopted the way of a strong person.
