Section on Witr prayer – mentioning the prohibition of performing Witr as three consecutive rak’ahs without separation
Hadith 2429
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلالٍ ، عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " لا تُوتِرُوا بِثَلاثٍ ، أَوْتِرُوا بِخَمْسٍ ، أَوْ بِسَبْعٍ ، وَلا تَشَبَّهُوا بِصَلاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Do not perform three rak‘ahs of Witr, perform five or seven, and do not resemble the Maghrib prayer."
