Section on Witr prayer – mentioning a report indicating that Witr is not obligatory
Hadith 2408
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَنْ أَدْرَكَ الصُّبْحَ وَلَمْ يُوتِرْ فَلا وِتْرَ لَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Whoever reaches the true dawn and has not performed Witr, then he has no Witr."
