Abu’l-‘Aliyah Bara reports: Once Ibn Ziyad performed a prayer late, so ‘Abdullah bin Samit came to me. I placed a chair for him and he sat on it. I mentioned to him about Ibn Ziyad’s action, so he began biting his lips. Then he struck his hand on my knee and said: I asked Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) a question, and he struck my knee with his hand just as I have struck your knee. Then he told me: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) a question just as you have asked me, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) struck my knee with his hand just as I have struck your knee. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “In such a situation, perform the prayer at its time. If you find the people praying, then pray with them as well. Do not say, ‘I have already performed the prayer, so I will not pray now.’”
