Chapter on What is Disliked and Not Disliked – Report That May Mislead Some to Think a Donkey Passing Does Not Invalidate Prayer
Hadith 2381
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْجَزَّارِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الصَّهْبَاءِ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا عِنْدَ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَذَكَرْنَا مَا كَانَ يَقْطَعُ الصَّلاةَ ، فَقَالُوا : الْحِمَارُ وَالْمَرْأَةُ ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : " لَقَدْ جِئْتُ أَنَا وَغُلامٌ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ مُرْتَدِفِينَ عَلَى حِمَارٍ ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ فِي أَرْضٍ خَلاءٍ ، فَتَرَكْنَا الْحِمَارَ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ ، ثُمَّ جِئْنَا حَتَّى دَخَلْنَا بَيْنَهُمْ فَمَا بَالَى بِذَلِكَ " .
Abu Sahba reports: We were present with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). We discussed the matter of what breaks the prayer. The people said: A donkey and a woman (passing in front of the one praying break the prayer). Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: I and a young man from Banu Abdul Muttalib came riding a donkey, one in front and one behind. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was leading the people in prayer in an open field at that time. We left the donkey in front of the people, then we came and joined the row. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) did not mind this at all.
