Chapter on What is Disliked and Not Disliked – Report Indicating This Was an Obligatory Prayer, Not Voluntary
Hadith 2340
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُعَافَى الْعَابِدُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَدَقَةَ الْجُبْلانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، عَنِ الزُّبَيْدِيِّ ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خَرَجَ إِلَى الصَّلاةِ وَهُوَ حَامِلٌ عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ أُمَامَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ ، فَكَانَ إِذَا رَكَعَ وَضَعَهَا عَنْ عَاتِقِهِ ، وَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ سُجُودِهِ حَمَلَهَا عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ كَذَلِكَ حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْ صَلاتِهِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came for prayer while he was carrying Sayyidah Umamah bint Abi Al-As (may Allah be pleased with her) on his shoulder. When he went into bowing (ruku‘), he put her down from his shoulder, and when he finished his prostration (sajdah), he picked her up again onto his shoulder. He continued doing this until he finished the prayer.
