Ibn Hibban

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, he stayed in the upper part of Madinah with a tribe called Banu Amr bin Awf. The Prophet (peace be upon him) stayed there for fourteen days, then he sent a message to the group of Banu Najjar. They came with their swords hanging (around their necks). Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: This scene is still before my eyes today. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was mounted on his ride and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting behind him. A group of Banu Najjar was around him, until he reached near the house of Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him). Whenever the time for prayer came upon the Prophet (peace be upon him), he would perform the prayer. He would perform prayer even in the sheepfold. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered the construction of the mosque. He sent a message to some people of Banu Najjar, and they came. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: O Banu Najjar! Set the price of this garden with me. They replied: No, by Allah! We will not take its price from you. This is only for the pleasure of Allah Almighty. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: What was in this garden, I will tell you. There were some graves of polytheists in it, there were date-palm trees, and there was a field. By the order of the Prophet (peace be upon him), the graves of the polytheists were leveled, the field was leveled, and the date-palm tree was placed in the direction of the qiblah in the mosque, and stones were placed on both sides of it. The narrator says: People used to carry stones and at the same time recite this rajaz (poetry). The Prophet (peace be upon him) was also with them. These people used to say: "O Allah! Goodness is only the goodness of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajirin."
