Chapter on What is Disliked and Not Disliked – Prohibition of Looking Up to the Sky in Prayer
Hadith 2284
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَا بَالُ أَقْوَامٍ يَرْفَعُونَ أَبْصَارَهُمْ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ فِي صَلاتِهِمْ " ، فَاشْتَدَّ قَوْلُهُ فِي ذَلِكَ حَتَّى قَالَ : " لَيَنْتَهُنَّ عَنْ ذَلِكَ ، أَوْ لَتُخْطَفَنَّ أَبْصَارُهُمْ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the matter with people that they raise their eyes towards the sky during prayer?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) emphasized this matter strongly and said: "People must stop doing this, or their sight will be taken away."
