Chapter on What is Disliked and Not Disliked – Permissibility of Crying in Prayer if Not for Worldly Reasons
Hadith 2257
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ حَارِثَةَ بْنِ مُضَرِّبٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : " مَا كَانَ فِينَا فَارِسٌ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ غَيْرَ الْمِقْدَادِ ، وَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا وَمَا فِينَا قَائِمٌ إِلا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَحْتَ شَجَرَةٍ يُصَلِّي وَيَبْكِي حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ " .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the occasion of the Battle of Badr, besides Miqdad, none of us was mounted on a horse, and I remember, every one of us was standing. (Here, the wording of the narration has been incorrectly transmitted; the correct wording is: every one of us was asleep) Only the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) (remained awake); he kept performing prayer under a tree and kept weeping until morning came.
