Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam – Obligation to Follow the Imam Even if He Falls Short in Some Aspects
Hadith 2228
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الإِفْرِيقِيِّ ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " سَيَأْتِي أَقْوَامٌ ، أَوْ يَكُونُ أَقْوَامٌ يُصَلُّونَ الصَّلاةَ ، فَإِنْ أَتَمُّوا فَلَكُمْ وَلَهُمْ ، وَإِنْ نَقَصُوا فَعَلَيْهِمْ وَلَكُمْ " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : أَبُو أَيُّوبَ الإِفْرِيقِيُّ اسْمُهُ : عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، مِنْ ثِقَاتِ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates this statement of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him: "Soon there will come people (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) there will be people who will perform the prayer; if they perform the prayer completely, then you will get the reward and they will also get the reward, and if they fall short in it, then its burden will be upon them and you will still get the reward." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The narrator named Abu Ayyub Afriki is Abdullah bin Ali, and he is a trustworthy narrator from Kufa.
