Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam – Prohibition for Women to Raise Their Heads Before Men Have Sat Down if Their Clothes are Few
Hadith 2216
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، قَالَ : " كُنَّ النِّسَاءُ يُؤْمَرْنَ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الصَّلاةِ أَنْ لا يَرْفَعْنَ رُءُوسَهُنَّ حَتَّى يَأْخُذَ الرِّجَالُ مَقَاعِدَهُمْ مِنَ الأَرْضِ ، مِنْ ضِيقِ الثِّيَابِ " . قَالَ بِشْرٌ : وَقَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ .
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: During the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), women were instructed regarding prayer that they should not raise their heads (from prostration) until the men had sat in their places. The reason for this was that the men’s garments were tight. The narrator named Bishr says: I have also heard this narration from Abu Hazim.
