Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam – Prohibition of Preventing One’s Wife from Attending Isha in the Mosque
Hadith 2213
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الزُّهْرِيَّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، أَنَّ عُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَاهُ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا اسْتَأْذَنَتْ أَحَدَكُمُ امْرَأَتُهُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَلا يَمْنَعْهَا " . قَالَ بِلالُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ : وَاللَّهِ لَنَمْنَعُهُنَّ . قَالَ : فَسَبَّهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ أَسْوَأَ مَا سَمِعْتُهُ سَبَّهُ قَطُّ ، وَقَالَ : سَمِعْتَنِي قُلْتُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا اسْتَأْذَنَتْ أَحَدَكُمُ امْرَأَتُهُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَلا يَمْنَعْهَا " . قُلْتَ : وَاللَّهِ لَنَمْنَعُهُنَّ ؟ ! .
Ubaidullah bin Abdullah narrates: He says that he heard his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them) saying that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a man's wife asks his permission to go to the mosque, he should not prevent her. Upon this, Bilal bin Abdullah bin Umar said: By Allah! We will certainly prevent those women. The narrator says: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) rebuked him; I have never heard him rebuke anyone more severely than this. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: You have heard me, I have said that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a man's wife asks his permission to go to the mosque, he should not prevent her, and yet you say, "By Allah! We will certainly prevent them."
