Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam – Clarification that a Lone Woman May Pray Behind Men and Follow the Imam
Hadith 2205
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّ جَدَّتَهُ مُلَيْكَةَ دَعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِطَعَامٍ صَنَعَتْهُ ، فَأَكَلَ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ : " قُومُوا فَلأُصَلِّيَ لَكُمْ " . قَالَ أَنَسٌ : فَقُمْتُ إِلَى حَصِيرٍ لِي قَدِ اسْوَدَّ مِنْ طُولِ مَا لُبِسَ ، فَنَضَحْتُهُ بِمَاءٍ ، فَقَامَ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَصَفَفْتُ أَنَا وَالْيَتِيمُ وَرَاءَهُ ، وَالْعَجُوزُ مِنْ وَرَائِنَا ، فَصَلَّى لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: His maternal grandmother, Sayyidah Maleekah (may Allah be pleased with her), invited the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) for a meal that she had prepared for him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate it, then he said: "Stand up so that I may lead you in prayer." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I got up and went to the mat, which had turned black due to excessive use. I washed it with water. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on it, and I and another boy formed a row behind him, and the elderly woman stood behind us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in two rak‘ahs of prayer and then concluded the prayer.
