Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam – Clarification that the Prophet Ordered the Man to Repeat Because He Was Not Connected to the Congregation
Hadith 2200
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ ، عَنْ هِلالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ ، قَالَ : أَخَذَ بِيَدِي زِيَادُ بْنُ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، وَنَحْنُ بِالرَّقَّةِ ، فَأَقَامَنِي عَلَى شَيْخٍ مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدٍ ، يُقَالُ لَهُ : وَابِصَةُ بْنُ مَعْبَدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي هَذَا الشَّيْخُ : " أَنَّ رَجُلا صَلَّى خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَحْدَهُ ، لَمْ يَتَّصِلْ بِأَحَدٍ ، فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يُعِيدَ الصَّلاةَ " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : سَمِعَ هَذَا الْخَبَرَ هِلالُ بْنُ يَسَافٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ رَاشِدٍ ، عَنْ وَابِصَةَ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ ، وَسَمِعَهُ مِنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ وَابِصَةَ، وَالطَّرِيقَانِ جَمِيعًا مَحْفُوظَانِ .
Hilal bin Yasaf narrates: Ziyad bin Abu Ja’d took my hand while we were in "Riqah." He brought me to an elderly man from the tribe of Banu Asad. His name was Sayyiduna Wabisah bin Ma’bad. Ziyad said that this elder had narrated this hadith to me. A man performed prayer behind the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) standing alone; he did not stand with anyone else (in the row), so the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ordered him to repeat the prayer. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) This narration was heard by Hilal bin Yasaf from Amr bin Rashid, from Wabisah bin Ma’bad. And he (Wabisah) narrated it from Ziyad, from Sayyiduna Wabisah (may Allah be pleased with him). So both chains of transmission are preserved.
