Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam – What the Imam Should Command Regarding Straightening the Rows Before Prayer
Hadith 2173
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السَّامِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ الْمَقَابِرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِوَجْهِهِ حِينَ قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلاةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُكَبِّرَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَقِيمُوا صُفُوفَكُمْ وَتَرَاصُّوا ، فَإِنِّي أَرَاكُمْ مِنْ وَرَاءِ ظَهْرِي " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand to perform prayer, before saying the takbeer, he would face us and instruct: "Straighten the rows and do not leave gaps between them, for I can see you behind my back."
