Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam - The reason for this command
Hadith 2166
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الأَزْهَرِ السِّجْزِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ ، وَشُعْبَةُ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " رُصُّوا صُفُوفَكُمْ ، وَقَارِبُوا بَيْنَهَا ، وَحَاذُوا بِالأَكْتَافِ ، فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ إِنِّي لأَرَى الشَّيْطَانَ يَدْخُلُ مِنْ خَلَلِ الصَّفِّ كَأَنَّهَا الْحَذَفُ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Straighten your rows. Stand close to one another and align your shoulders. By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, I have seen Satan entering the gaps in the rows just as if he were a small goat."
