Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam - Command to complete the first row, then the next, as the angels do
Hadith 2154
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ طَرَفَةَ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَسْجِدَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلا تَصُفُّونَ كَمَا تَصُفُّ الْمَلائِكَةُ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ ؟ " . قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَكَيْفَ تَصُفُّ الْمَلائِكَةُ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ ؟ . قَالَ : " يُتِمُّونَ الصُّفُوفُ الأُوَلَ ، وَيَتَرَاصُّونَ فِي الصَّفِّ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the mosque. He said: Why do you not form rows as the angels form rows before their Lord? The people asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! How do the angels form rows before their Lord? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: They complete the first row first and then do not leave any gaps in the rows.
