Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam - Command to hasten to the first row and to be regular in Fajr and Isha
Hadith 2153
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ سُمَيٍّ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ مَا فِي النِّدَاءِ وَالصَّفِّ الأَوَّلِ ، ثُمَّ لَمْ يَجِدُوا إِلا أَنْ يَسْتَهِمُوا عَلَيْهِ لاسْتَهَمُوا ، وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِي التَّهْجِيرِ ، لاسْتَبَقُوا إِلَيْهِ ، وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِي الْعَتَمَةِ وَالصُّبْحِ ، لأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If people were to know what reward and merit there is in giving the call to prayer (adhan) and in performing prayer in the first row, and then they could only attain it by drawing lots, they would surely draw lots for it. And if they were to know the reward for going early to the prayer, they would race each other to it. And if they were to know the virtue of the ‘Isha and Fajr prayers (offered in congregation), they would surely attend them even if they had to crawl."
