Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam - Recommendation to pray facing a pillar in congregational mosques
Hadith 2152
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَأْتِي مَعَ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الأَكْوَعِ ، إِلَى سُبْحَةِ الضُّحَى ، فَيَعْمِدُ إِلَى الأُسْطُوَانَةِ ، فَيُصَلِّي قَرِيبًا مِنْهَا فَأَقُولُ لَهُ : لا تُصَلِّ هَا هُنَا وَأُشِيرُ لَهُ إِلَى بَعْضِ نَوَاحِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَيَقُولُ : " إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَحَرَّى هَذَا الْمَقَامَ " .
Yazid bin Abu Ubaid narrates: He used to go with Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) to perform the Duha prayer, so Sayyiduna Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) would specifically go towards a particular pillar and pray near it. I said to him: Do not pray here. I pointed towards other corners of the mosque and said: (that you may pray there). So he replied: I have seen the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), he used to especially pray at this place.
