Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam - Command for calmness when coming to prayer and making up what was missed
Hadith 2145
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِذَا أَتَيْتُمُ الصَّلاةَ ، فَلا تَأْتُوهَا تَسْعَوْنَ ، وَائْتُوهَا وَعَلَيْكُمُ السَّكِينَةُ ، فَمَا أَدْرَكْتُمْ فَصَلُّوا ، وَمَا فَاتَكُمْ فَاقْضُوا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When you come for prayer, do not come running towards it, rather come in a state of calmness. Perform as much of the prayer as you catch, and complete what you have missed afterwards."
