Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam - Permission to lead others and lengthen the prayer
Hadith 2141
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَطَالَ حَتَّى هَمَمْتُ بِأَمْرِ سُوءٍ " . قَالَ : قِيلَ : وَمَا هَمَمْتَ بِهِ ؟ . قَالَ : هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَجْلِسَ وَأَدَعَهُ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I performed prayer behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He performed a long prayer, to the extent that I thought of a bad idea in my heart. The narrator says: He was asked: What did you intend? He said: I intended that I would sit down and let him continue performing the prayer.
