Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam - Ruling for three or more in leadership is the same as for two
Hadith 2132
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ الضَّرِيرُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، وَهِشَامٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا كُنْتُمْ ثَلاثَةً فِي سَفَرٍ ، فَلْيَؤُمَّكُمْ أَحَدُكُمْ ، وَأَحَقَّكُمْ بِالإِمَامَةِ أَقْرَؤُكُمْ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When three people are traveling, one of you should lead (as imam), and the one who has the most knowledge of recitation among you has the greatest right to lead."
