Chapter on the Obligation of Congregation and Excuses Permitting Its Omission - Report refuting those who claim the reason was not absence from Isha
Hadith 2097
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَرُوبَةَ بِحَرَّانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ ذَكْوَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلا يُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ، ثُمَّ آتِيَ أَقْوَامًا يَخَلَّفُونَ عَنْهَا فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ " يَعْنِي الصَّلاتَيْنِ الْعِشَاءَ وَالْغَدَاةَ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "I intended to order someone to lead the people in prayer, then I would go to those people who did not join the congregational prayer. I would burn their houses down." (The narrator says: meaning those who did not join the 'Isha and Fajr prayers.)
