Chapter on the Obligation of Congregation and Excuses Permitting Its Omission - Report about the Prophet's intent to be strict with those absent from Isha and Fajr in congregation
Hadith 2096
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِحَطَبٍ فَيُحْطَبَ ، ثُمَّ آمُرَ بِالصَّلاةِ فَيُؤَذَّنَ لَهَا ، ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلا فَيَؤُمَّ النَّاسَ ، ثُمَّ أُخَالِفَ إِلَى رِجَالٍ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، لَوْ يَعْلَمُ أَحَدُهُمْ أَنَّهُ يَجِدُ عَظْمًا سَمِينًا أَوْ مِرْمَاتَيْنِ حَسَنَتَيْنِ لَشَهِدَ الْعِشَاءَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Him in Whose Hand is my soul! I intended to order for wood to be gathered, then order for the prayer to be established, then appoint a man to lead the people in prayer, and then I would go to those men (who do not attend the congregational prayer) and burn their houses down upon them. By Him in Whose Hand is my soul! If any one of them knew that he would find a bone with some meat or two good pieces of meat, he would surely attend the ‘Isha prayer."
