Chapter on the Obligation of Congregation and Excuses Permitting Its Omission - The fifth excuse: needing to relieve oneself
Hadith 2071
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ الأَرْقَمِ ، كَانَ يَؤُمُّ أَصْحَابَهُ ، فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلاةُ يَوْمًا ، فَذَهَبَ لِحَاجَتِهِ ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ ، فَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِذَا وَجَدَ أَحَدٌ الْغَائِطَ ، فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِهِ قَبْلَ الصَّلاةِ " .
It is narrated about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to lead his companions in prayer. One day, when the time for prayer came, he went to relieve himself. Then he returned and informed them: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say this: "When a person feels the need to relieve himself, he should fulfill that (need) before the prayer."
