Ata bin Abu Marwan narrates from his father that Ka’b (perhaps this refers to Ka’b al-Ahbar) swore by the One who parted the sea for Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) and stated this: We found this in the Book (i.e., the Torah), that when Allah’s Prophet Sayyiduna Dawud (peace be upon him) would finish his prayer, he would recite these words: “O Allah! Set right for me my religion which You have made the means of my end, and set right for me my worldly life in which You have placed my living. O Allah! I seek Your pleasure in place of Your displeasure, Your forgiveness in place of Your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. O Allah! There is none who can withhold what You give, and none who can give what You withhold, and the status of any person of status is of no benefit against You.” The narrator states: Ka’b al-Ahbar told me this, and Sayyiduna Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him) had told him this, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would also recite these words after finishing the prayer.
