1 hadith
Hadith 1958
Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to us while we were sitting in the gathering of Sayyiduna Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah. Then Sayyiduna Bashir bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Allah Almighty has commanded us to send blessings upon you, so how should we send blessings upon you? The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained silent until we wished that he had not asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) this question. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: You should say: “O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. And send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim among all the worlds. Surely, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.” (The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:) The method of greeting (salam) is as you already know.
