Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Command to recite a second version of tashahhud as both are permissible differences
Hadith 1953
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، مِنْ كِتَابِهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهِبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، وَطَاوُسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعَلِّمُنَا التَّشَهُّدَ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُنَا السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ، كَانَ يَقُولُ : " التَّحِيَّاتُ الْمُبَارَكَاتُ الصَّلَوَاتُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ لِلَّهِ ، السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ ، سَلامٌ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us the Tashahhud just as he would teach us a surah from the Qur'an. He used to recite: "All blessed verbal acts of worship and all pure physical acts of worship are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet, peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) In narrating this tradition, the narrator named Abu Zubair is unique.
