Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Permissibility of reciting other versions of tashahhud in prayer
Hadith 1952
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا كَامِلُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، وَطَاوُسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعَلِّمُنَا التَّشَهُّدَ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُنَا السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ : " التَّحِيَّاتُ الْمُبَارَكَاتُ الصَّلَوَاتُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ لِلَّهِ ، السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ ، سَلامٌ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to teach us the Tashahhud in the same way as he used to teach us a surah from the Qur'an. (The words of Tashahhud are as follows:) "All blessed verbal acts of worship and pure supplications are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet, peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."
