Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Clarification that the first tashahhud is not obligatory for the worshipper
Hadith 1939
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهِبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هُرْمُزَ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُحَيْنَةَ الأَسَدِيِّ ، حَلِيفِ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ : " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَامَ مِنْ صَلاةِ الظُّهْرِ وَعَلَيْهِ جُلُوسٌ ، فَلَمَّا أَتَمَّ صَلاتَهُ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسَلِّمَ ، وَسَجَدَهُمَا النَّاسُ مَكَانَ مَا نَسِيَ مِنَ الْجُلُوسِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Buhaina Asadi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up during the Zuhr prayer at the point when he was supposed to sit. When he completed the prayer, before saying the salam, he performed two prostrations while sitting. The people also performed these two prostrations. These were in place of the sitting that he had forgotten.
