Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Recommendation to seek refuge in Allah’s pleasure from His anger in prostration
Hadith 1932
أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : فَقَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ مِنَ الْفِرَاشِ ، فَالْتَمَسْتُهُ ، فَوَقَعَتْ يَدِي عَلَى بَطْنِ قَدَمَيْهِ وَهُوَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، وَهُمَا مَنْصُوبَتَانِ ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ ، وَبِمُعَافَاتِكَ مِنْ عُقُوبَتِكَ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْكَ ، لا أُحْصِي ثَنَاءً عَلَيْكَ أَنْتَ كَمَا أَثْنَيْتَ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ " .
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: One night I found the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) absent from the bed (due to the darkness). I searched for him, and my hand touched the soles of his feet. He was at his prayer place, both his feet were upright, and he was (in the state of prostration) saying: "O Allah! I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your displeasure, in Your forgiveness from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. I cannot enumerate Your praises; You are as You have praised Yourself."
